UniStar selects Calvert Cliffs for COL

01 May 2007

[Unistar, 30 April] UniStar Nuclear has selected the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant as the site of a potential new plant. Unistar - a joint venture between Constellation Energy and Areva Inc - has notified the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that it has selected Constellation's Calvert Cliffs plant as the site of a combined construction and operating licence (COL) application. The application, which Unistar plans to submit to the NRC no later than 15 March 2008, will be for Areva's US Evolutionary Power Reactor (EPR). Unistar said that the application will serve as the reference document for all future Unistar COL applications. Unistar is working toward developing and deploying a proposed standardized fleet of advanced US EPR units in the USA and continues its discussions with potential investors, partners and customers. At the beginning of April, Unistar reported that it had signed an agreement with AmerenUE for the development of a COL application.
