Areva, Evopro agree to cooperate

Areva and Hungarian engineering company Evopro have signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize global cooperation in nuclear and renewable energy.
Having successfully completed Areva's supplier pre-qualification program, Evopro has signed an agreement that "marks the beginning of collaboration on a series of identified opportunities for both nuclear new builds and existing plants," the companies said in a joint statement.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in Budapest on 6 February in the presence of Hungary's deputy minister for foreign affairs and trade, László Szabó.
The companies said that the first area of collaboration will be for the supply of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems to Hungary's existing and future power reactors.
Areva-supplied I&C systems were installed at units 1 to 4 of Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant 15 years ago. The companies hope that through their collaboration, they will be able to participate successfully in the forthcoming tender to upgrade the unit's systems in an investment program starting in 2018.
Frank Apel, Areva's senior vice president of sales in Western and Northern Europe, said the agreement with Evopro "strengthens our relationship with the Hungarian nuclear industry and supports our localization initiatives for new builds and modernization projects."
