CASI venture opens in China

A joint venture between France's Areva and China's Central Nuclear Control System Engineering Co has officially opened in Beijing. The new company - Areva Nuclear Safety Instrument Control Engineering Co (CASI) - will supply digital control systems for nuclear power plants.

Ling Ao I&C acceptance
Following a two-year testing period, China General Nuclear (CGN) has confirmed to Areva the acceptance for the Teleperm XS I&C system that has been supplied and installed at units 3 and 4 of its Ling Ao nuclear power plant.
The two units - in China's Guangdong province - were commissioned in September 2010 and August 2011 respectively. According to Areva, its Teleperm XS system has "operated flawlessly" since the units were connected to the grid.
CASI - which has a registered capital of CNY 150 million ($24 million) - is owned 49% by Areva and 51% by Central Nuclear Control System Engineering.
The venture will focus on the development, design, engineering, manufacture, systems integration, sales, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety-related digital control systems for nuclear power plants. It will offer products from both partners, including Areva's Teleperm XS safety instrumentation and control (I&C) system.
In the future, manufacture and software development of Teleperm XS modules will gradually be transferred to China with CASI becoming the centre of the global supply of the platform, CNNC said in a statement. The Teleperm XS platform is already in use or is being installed at 81 nuclear power units in 16 countries.
