New head of safety on Taiwan

Tsai Chuen-Horng has taken office as minister and chairman of the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) which regulates nuclear safety on Taiwan, following the election of President Ma Ying-Jeou. Tsai's former position was as a professor at National Tsing Hua University. Tsai said: "As the nuclear safety regulatory authority, AEC takes responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public. The public needs to know we're on their side." He urged each of his employees to work "as an environmentalist for nuclear energy." Shieh Der-Jhy will serve as Tsai's deputy.
