Constellation and Edf to talk

14 October 2010

Electricité de France (EdF) has responded to Constellation's rejection of loan guarantee terms with a letter "generally describing ideas for a potential restructuring" of their Unistar partnership. The US generator said it "looks forward" to talks but noted it would hold EdF to conditions of a previous deal, which would force EdF to buy certain non-nuclear Constellation assets. The US Department of Energy made a conditional offer of a loan guarantee to the Unistar project to build an Areva EPR at Calvert Cliffs, but Constellation baulked at the cost - some $880 million.
