[AP, 22 January] Powerful nations opposed to Iran's uranium enrichment program approved a draft UN resolution on the matter on 22 January. German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters after the Berlin meeting: "We are united in the assessment that a nuclear-armed Iran would have dramatic consequences for the Middle East and even beyond. So we are, and remain, agreed that we must and will continue to work together... to ensure that it does not happen."

China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK and the USA (the 5+1) met in Berlin to discuss the matter. German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters after the Berlin meeting: "We are united in the assessment that a nuclear-armed Iran would have dramatic consequences for the Middle East and even beyond. So we are, and remain, agreed that we must and will continue to work together... to ensure that it does not happen." Iran vowed to continue it's uranium enrichment program, while shipments of ready-manufactured nuclear fuel from Russia to Iran's Bushehr reactor continued. The meeting followed International Atomic Energy Agency director general Mohamed ElBaradei's visit to Iran earlier this month. The draft resolution will be presented to the UN Security Council within weeks.
