New WANO head from September
George Felgate will take over as managing director of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) from 1 September, replacing Luc Mampaey. The safety organisation said that Felgate had joined its sister body the US-based Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO) in 1982 and risen to become vice president of plant operations. WANO works to maximise the safety and reliability of the operation of nuclear power plants by exchanging information and best practice among it members, which between them count 447 nuclear facilities in 30 countries. WANO has regional centres in Atlanta, Paris, Moscow and Tokyo as well as a Coordinating Centre in London, where Felgate will be based.
