Queensland responds to government

[Daily Telegraph, 2 May] TheNuclear Facilities Prohibition Act 2006 has come into force inAustralia's state of Queensland. Banned facilities include reactors,plants for uranium conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, used fuelreprocessing and radioactive waste storage and disposal. Thelegislation is similar to some in force in New South Wales andVictoria. Not listed are uranium mines, for which there are prospectivesites in Queensland, including Mount Isa, the focus of the takeoverstruggle of Summit Resources. The move comes after federal government statementstowards establishing a nuclear regulatory regime for further nuclearfacilities.
