Settlement clears way for Malawi mine

Thursday, 8 November 2007
[PaladinResources, 8 November] Four of the six non-governmental organizations that hadinitiated legal proceedings concerning Paladin's Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi havesettled their action against Paladin and the government of Malawi "on apositive and amicable basis." All of the parties to the settlement havereleased each other from all actions and claims associated with the lawsuit andagreed not to recommence litigation. Even though settlement has not yet beenreached with two of the six Malawian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs),Paladin is "confident" that the cause on which the action was based has nowbeen addressed and says the construction of the Kayelekera uranium project, which is currently on schedule, will proceed "without interruption ormodification." The settlement arrangements include an undertaking by theMalawian government to include members of the four CSOs in monitoring Paladin'senvironmental and health obligations. Plant commissioning is scheduled for thelast quarter of 2008.
