Electrabel reschedules Tihange 1 outage
Belgian utility Electrabel has changed the schedule for a planned outage at unit 1 of its Tihange nuclear power plant to ensure the country's demand for electricity during the coming winter can be met. Three of Belgium's seven reactors are currently offline.

Grid connection for first Fuqing unit
Unit 1 of the Fuqing nuclear power plant in China's Fujian province has been connected to the electricity grid, becoming China National Nuclear Corporation's tenth operating power reactor. It is expected to enter commercial operation by the end of the year.

'Significant damage' to Doel 4 turbine
Unit 4 of Belgium's Doel nuclear power plant will remain out of operation until at least the end of this year, Electrabel has announced. An investigation continues into the loss of lubricating oil from the unit's steam turbine system.

UK regulator backs EDF Energy on reactor checks
The UK's Office for Nuclear Regulation has said it is satisfied that EDF Energy is taking "appropriate and conservative action in the interests of continued nuclear safety" in its decision to shut down its reactors at the Heysham 1 and Hartlepool sites in response to the identification of unexpected "cracking" in a boiler spine of unit 1 at Heysham 1.

RAPP 5 exceeds 740 days of uninterrupted operation
The fifth unit at India's Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) has operated continuously for more than 740 days. Only one other reactor - Canada's Pickering 7 - has operated for a longer continuous period.

Doel 4 shuts down after worker action
Belgian nuclear safety regulators think it was probably deliberate action by a worker that caused lubricant to be lost from Doel 4's steam turbine system. The plant shut down automatically.

EDF closes four reactors to assess boiler fault
EDF Energy says it has shut down four of its UK reactors after discovering a fault in a "boiler spine" in unit 1 of its Heysham 1 nuclear power plant - "although routine inspections of other boiler spines have not previously indicated any similar defects."

Lungmen 1 passes pre-operational tests
Pre-operational tests have been successfully completed at unit 1 of the Lungmen nuclear power plant in Taiwan. However, start-up of the reactor has been delayed until a national referendum, not expected for up to another three years.

Spanish regulator sets conditions for Garoña restart
