Onagawa 2 restart expected in September
Tohoku Electric Power Company now expects to reconnect unit 2 of its Onagawa nuclear power plant in Japan's northeastern Miyagi Prefecture to the grid in September. In January, the utility said additional safety construction works had delayed the previously planned restart in May.

Ansaldo Nucleare, SACE and Nuclearelectrica sign Cernavoda MoU
Italian finance and insurance group SACE, Ansaldo Nucleare and Romania's Nuclearelectrica have signed a memorandum of understanding relating to the life extension of Cernavoda unit 1 and the development of units 3 and 4.

Constellation files Clinton licence renewal application
The 20-year licence renewal would allow the Illinois nuclear power plant to continue providing carbon-free energy to the region until 2047 with adequate market or policy support, Constellation Energy Corp said.

Kakrapar 4 gets go-ahead to increase power
The Indian regulator has given the go-ahead for the 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactor to move to the next stage of commissioning and increase power to 50%. The unit reached first criticality in December.

Ontario minister confirms Pickering refurbishment plans
The provincial government is supporting Ontario Power Generation to go ahead with the refurbishment of units 5-8 at the Pickering nuclear power plant. OPG will now begin the initiation phase of the project.

Temelín cuts energy use 'by equivalent of small town's consumption'
Czech nuclear power plant operator ČEZ says that introducing new data-based techniques - encompassing things like air temperature, humidity and the temperature of cooling water - to find the optimal setting of the largest circulation pumps, cut the Temelín nuclear power plant's electricity consumption by 5400 MWh in 2023.

Onagawa 2 restart delayed by 'several months'
Safety upgrade work at unit 2 of the Onagawa nuclear power plant in Japan's northeastern Miyagi Prefecture will not be completed next month, as previously planned, Tohoku Electric Power Company announced. The utility had earlier expected to resume commercial operation of the reactor around May.

EDF plans new investment and extensions for UK nuclear fleet
EDF Energy has announced it will invest a further GBP1.3 billion (USD1.7 billion) in the UK's five operating nuclear power plants over the next two years and plans to further extend the lives of the four operating Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor plants.

IAEA welcomes action on back-up power at Zaporizhzhia
The International Atomic Energy Agency says a new system to ensure an immediate supply of back-up electricity if the main external line fails is a significant safety development - but has also outlined a list of areas of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant its experts want to inspect.
