Environmental approval for new Czech reactors

Nuclear plant design needs blue sky approach

First AP1000 operators get training
New control room simulators will be used in the training of operators for the AP1000 units currently under construction at Sanmen and Haiyang in China. The first batch of operators is set to qualify by the end of this year.

Argentine reactor moves into commissioning
Initial hot testing of the Atucha 2 nuclear power reactor in Argentina has successfully been completed. The 745 MWe pressurized heavy-water reactor is expected to begin generating electricity in June.

Fessenheim safety work 'satisfactory'

Mühleberg upgrade decision delayed
Swiss utility BKW FMB Energy has delayed a decision on making safety-related upgrades at the Mühleberg nuclear power plant. The decision - originally expected in mid-2013 - will now be made at the end of 2013.

Early shutdown for Garoña
Spanish utility Nuclenor has begun shutting down the Garoña nuclear power plant, which was due to close in mid-2013. The company said that closing the plant now will avoid it being burdened with a new energy tax set to be imposed next year.
