Vattenfall opts for early closure of Ringhals units
Declining profitability and increased costs have forced Swedish utility Vattenfall to decide to close units 1 and 2 of the Ringhals nuclear power plant earlier than previously planned. The decision would see the units shut between 2018 and 2020, rather than around 2025.

Westinghouse to upgrade Clab cooling system
Westinghouse is to increase the capacity of the cooling system at Sweden's central interim storage facility for used nuclear fuel (Clab) at Oskarshamn under a contract signed with with the country's radioactive waste management company, Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB).

Oskarshamn 2 simulator approaches commissioning
A new simulator is nearing completion at unit 2 of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant in Sweden, operator OKG said today. The simulator is part of a safety modernization of the unit started in mid-2013.

Forsmark 1 turbines to get new blades
New blades are to be installed in the low-pressure turbines at unit 1 of Sweden's Forsmark nuclear power plant during an upcoming maintenance outage. The new blades are designed to reduce vibrations, which have affected the current blades.

Oskarshamn 2 outage extended to year-end
The safety modernization of unit 2 of Sweden's Oskarshamn nuclear power plant is now expected to be completed by the end of 2015, plant operator OKG announced today. The work began in June 2013.

Request to operate Forsmark 2 at increased power
Forsmark Group AB has applied to the Swedish nuclear regulator to operate permanently unit 2 of the Forsmark nuclear power plant at a higher power level. The unit has been in trial operation for the past two years following a 12% power uprate.

Early safety assessment for Oskarshamn 2

Government backs Swedish waste fee hike
