Global Laser Enrichment has entered into a set of agreements that provides it with an option to purchase a plot of land for the planned Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility in Kentucky.

The Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection has granted the final permit to Urenco for the construction and operation of a new radioactive waste storage facility at its Almelo site. The uranium enrichment company was last year granted permission to build the facility prior to the permit being issued.

The UK government is awarding GBP196 million (USD245 million) to Urenco to build a uranium enrichment facility with the capacity to produce up to 10 tonnes of high-assay low-enriched uranium per year by 2031.

Global Laser Enrichment has decided not to submit a proposal in response to a US Department of Energy request for the acquisition of high-assay low-enriched uranium enrichment, its 51%-owner Silex Systems has announced. The company has also received regulatory approval to load uranium hexafluoride for the start of testing to demonstrate the technology it plans to use in its enrichment facility at Paducah in Kentucky.

Uranium enrichment services provider Urenco has broken ground on an expansion of its plant in Almelo in the Netherlands. The move came as the company signed a new long-term supply contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

In a contract signed during a visit to the Czech Republic by French President Emmanuel Macron, Orano will supply uranium enrichment services, which will be used at ČEZ's Dukovany nuclear power plant.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has signed a Letter of Intent with US nuclear fuel and services company Centrus Energy to ensure a stable supply of nuclear fuel. It follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two companies in April last year.

The US nuclear fuel and services company expects the shortages to be temporary but says it will no longer be able to deliver the anticipated 900 kg of material under the second part of its contract with the US Department of Energy.

Uranium enrichment services provider Urenco has announced plans to increase capacity at its plant in Almelo in the Netherlands by 15% in response to new commitments from customers.

The contract will see Urenco continuing to supply Ukraine's Energoatom with enriched uranium until 2035, with an option to extend the contract to 2043. 

The first delivery of high-assay, low-enriched uranium produced at the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, to the US Department of Energy marks the end of the first phase of a cost-share contract signed in 2022.
 

Following a "rigorous procurement process", US engineering firm Bechtel has been selected by uranium enrichment services provider Urenco to support the expansion of the Tails Management Facility at its site in Capenhurst, UK.
