An International Atomic Energy Agency team of experts has completed a follow-up nuclear security advisory mission to Switzerland. The International Physical Protection Advisory Service mission concluded Switzerland has strengthened its nuclear security regime since a mission in 2018.

All the nuclear fuel at the shut down Mühleberg nuclear power plant has now been transported to the Zwilag interim storage facility in Würenlingen, Swiss utility BKW announced. The removal of the fuel marks the completion of the first of three stages of decommissioning of the plant.

The Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate has announced that the operating licence of the Mühleberg nuclear power plant has been replaced with a decommissioning order issued by the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication. The single unit 373 MWe boiling water reactor began operations in 1972.
