DOE, NRC collaborate on advanced reactor deployment

Russia, UAE extend MoU on cooperation
Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has renewed its 2017 Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy with Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom. The document was signed by Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of ENEC, and Alexey Likhachov, Rosatom director general, in Abu Dhabi during Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

Nuclearelectrica to cooperate in development of ALFRED
Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fostering ALFRED Construction consortium regarding cooperation on the development of the Advanced Lead Fast Reactor European Demonstrator (ALFRED). A demonstration unit is planned to be constructed in Romania.

Orano and Tepco cooperate further on decommissioning
France's Orano Group recently signed a cooperation agreement with Japanese utility Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to strengthen their cooperation on the decommissioning of nuclear facilities at the Fukushima Daiichi site.

GE Hitachi, Fermi Energia sign small modular reactor MoU
GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Fermi Energia have agreed to collaborate on potential deployment applications for GEH's BWRX-300 small modular reactor in Estonia. In a Memorandum of Understanding they have agreed to examine the economic feasibility of constructing a BWRX-300 in Estonia, to review siting requirements and to assess nuclear regulatory requirements.

Romania and USA agree to nuclear cooperation
The USA and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on civil nuclear energy. The agreement was signed by US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă on 24 September during the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.

Korea, Saudi Arabia to cooperate on SMART deployment
South Korea and Saudi Arabia have agreed to collaborate on the commercialisation of the Korean-designed SMART small modular reactor. Under the agreement, they will work together to license and construct the first such unit in Saudi Arabia.

Central Asia commits to affordable and clean energy
Energy ministers from across Central Asia today committed their countries to collaborating on meeting the United Nations' seventh Sustainable Development Goal, which pledges 'affordable and clean energy' by 2030. The meeting is the first time they have come together to discuss the region's common energy challenges.

Energoatom and Westinghouse plan VVER-440 fuel cooperation
Ukraine's Energoatom and Westinghouse of the USA have signed a preliminary agreement for Westinghouse to manufacture fuel for VVER-440 reactors in the country. Ukraine has two VVER-440s - units 1 and 2 of the Rovno nuclear power plant.

Japanese firms explore collaboration on BWRs
Japanese utilities Tokyo Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Company have today signed a basic agreement with Hitachi and Toshiba to discuss potential collaboration on boiling water reactors (BWRs).
