The Onagawa nuclear power plant on Japan's northeastern coast - the closest plant to the epicentre of the massive earthquake and tsunami of 11 March 2011 - suffered remarkably little damage, a mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has concluded.

Thousands of Naraha residents can return to homes and businesses during daylight hours now that the Fukushima municipality's evacuation order has been lifted.
Work to bolster tsunami and flood protection at the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in Japan will not be completed until the end of 2013, Chubu Electric Power Company has announced. The plant will remain offline until it has strengthened its sea defences.
Unit 2 at EDF's Bugey nuclear power plant is capable of operating for a further ten years, France's nuclear regulator has concluded after the unit's third ten-year safety inspection. A final decision on its continued operation is expected before the end of the year.
The first safety-related concrete has been poured for the foundation slab of the initial reactor at the Barakah site in the United Arab Emirates. The move came just one day after the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation was issued with a construction licence for two units at the site.
