Binding agreements signed for sale of New NP
Areva SA and EDF have signed definitive binding agreements setting the terms of the sale of New NP, Areva NP's nuclear reactor operations. The transaction is scheduled to close by the end of this year. The sale price for 100% of New NP's equity has been confirmed at €2.5 billion.

Jordan to consider deployment of X-energy SMR
The Jordan Atomic Energy Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with X-energy to assess the US company's small modular reactor (SMR). They will look at the potential deployment of X-energy's Xe-100 high temperature gas-cooled pebble bed modular reactor in Jordan.

UK, South Korea to extend nuclear cooperation
A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in nuclear energy was signed yesterday between the UK and South Korea. The agreement calls for greater collaboration in the construction of new nuclear power plants and the decommissioning of old ones.

Russian and Brazilian firms to cooperate in nuclear power
Russia's Rosatom has signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazilian companies Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras (Eletrobras) and Eletrobras Termonuclear SA (Eletronuclear) to promote cooperation in nuclear power. It includes the possible construction of a new nuclear power plant in Brazil, Rosatom said.

Rosatom and Andra expand cooperation
Russia's Rosatom and the French radioactive waste management agency Andra yesterday signed a cooperation agreement concerning the final isolation of radioactive waste. The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding the two parties signed in 2012.

IAEA knows more about Iran thanks to JCPOA
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has led to a significant reduction in Iran's nuclear activities while enabling the International Atomic Energy Agency to increase its knowledge of the country's nuclear programme, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in a speech at Harvard University.

Russia and Philippines agree to nuclear cooperation
Russia is to assist the Philippines in developing national policies for the development of nuclear energy through a memorandum of cooperation signed on 13 November. The cooperation will include feasibility studies on the construction of small modular reactors.

China and Vietnam to cooperate on nuclear safety
The nuclear safety regulators of China and Vietnam today signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. The two countries signed an agreement to cooperate in nuclear energy in 2000.

UN report identifies emissions gap
National pledges made under the Paris Climate Change Agreement will only achieve a third of the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions required by 2030 to meet climate targets, a new report from the United Nations Environment Programme has found. In response, the director general of World Nuclear Association, Agneta Rising, said the importance of nuclear energy in meeting climate targets cannot be overstated.

UK seeks close post-Brexit energy relationship with EU
The UK government's top priority is to agree arrangements with the European Union related to energy - particularly nuclear energy - that are as close as possible to current arrangements, the country's energy minister has said.
