Preparations under way for refurb of Chinese Candus
Canada's Candu Energy said it is conducting pre-project design and engineering work to facilitate a 30-year life extension of the two Candu reactors at the Qinshan Phase III nuclear power plant near Shanghai in China's Zhejiang province.

First contract signed for Romanian nuclear refurbishment
Canada's Candu Energy has signed the first contract for the refurbishment of unit 1 at Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant. The extensive re-tubing of the reactor will take its operational life to 2060 and directly help enable net-zero goals.

Framatome to decontaminate Bruce units ahead of refurbs

Koeberg 2 steam generator replacement postponed
South African utility Eskom has deferred the replacement of three steam generators at unit 2 of its Koeberg nuclear power plant until its next planned outage in August 2023. The move was made due to concerns the reactor would not be returned to service after the current outage in time for the high-demand winter period.

Bruce project is key to Ontario economic recovery
Bruce Power's Major Component Replacement project is helping contribute to economic revitalisation in Ontario, the company said today as it announced new contracts and manufacturing milestones with its partners in the province. These include the completion of calandria tube manufacturing for unit 3; a new contract to automate the installation of the tubes; and a contract for the replacement of steam generators at Bruce 3 and 4.

Koeberg offline for replacement of steam generators
Unit 2 of South Africa’s Koeberg nuclear power plant has been taken offline for refuelling and the replacement of its three steam generators and reactor pressure vessel head. The work is part of plans to extend its operation for 20 years, and scheduled to take five months.

The last of eight replacement steam generators has been lifted into place at Bruce unit 6, marking an important milestone in the ongoing Major Component Replacement project which will add 30-35 years to the Candu unit's operational life.
