Cameco has announced plans to restart uranium production at McArthur River/Key Lake, idled since 2018. The company plans to ramp up production at the operation in northern Saskatchewan to produce 15 million pounds U3O8 (5770 tU) per year starting in 2024, but aims to maintain "supply discipline", reducing production at Cigar Lake to 25% below its licensed capacity.

The total cost to rehabilitate the Ranger project area is likely to be between AUD1.6 billion and AUD2.2 billion (USD1.1 billion-1.6 billion), according to preliminary findings from a reforecasting exercise by Energy Resources of Australia. The work is now expected to be completed between late 2027 and late 2028.

Cameco has requested an extension to state-level environmental approvals for the Yeelirrie project and remains committed to it, the Canadian company said. The government of Western Australia previously set a deadline of 20 January this year for the company to demonstrate "substantial commencement" of the project.

Uranium development company enCore Energy has completed its acquisition of Azarga Uranium, consolidating the two companies' US exploration and development stage in-situ leach uranium projects and estimated resources totalling 99 million pounds U3O8 (38,080 tU). Azarga is now a 100%-owned subsidiary of enCore.

A programme to make Ukraine self-sufficient in uranium by 2027 has been approved by the country's cabinet. Nuclear power is planned for significant expansion beyond the 54% of electricity it already provides in Ukraine.

The first well has been drilled at the Kolichikan uranium deposit in Russia's Republic of Buryatia, near the border with Mongolia. It will be an in-situ leach uranium mine with around 237 wells.

Kazakh national nuclear company Kazatomprom has signed a framework agreement with Genchi Global to invest in the newly established ANU Energy OEIC Limited physical uranium fund, meaning the fund can begin operations. Meanwhile, Kazatomprom has exercised an option to buy back uranium previously sold to Yellow Cake plc.

Construction work has begun at Dobrovolnoye in Russia, developing the uranium deposit beyond the pilot operation on which work started a year ago. The mine should create 300 jobs, with mining operations scheduled to begin in December 2022.

Texas-based Uranium Energy Corp has agreed to buy Uranium One Americas Inc from Rosatom's Uranium One Group. The acquisition will create "hub-and-spoke" operations in Wyoming for UEC, centred on U1A's Irigaray plant, and will position it as the largest American uranium mining company, UEC said.

London-quoted Yellow Cake plc has announced plans to buy a further 3 million pounds U3O8 (1154 tU), including 1 million pounds U3O8 from Kazatomprom in addition to that already covered in its option agreement with the Kazakh uranium producer. It also intends to buy some 2 million pounds of material sourced from CGN Global Uranium Limited.

Kazatomprom has announced it is to participate in a physical uranium fund, ANU Energy OEIC Limited, established on the Astana International Financial Centre. The fund will hold physical uranium as a long-term investment, with its initial USD50 million of purchases financed by its founders and plans to raise USD500 million for additional uranium purchases in a second development stage.

The Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has approved Vimy Resources' Mulga Rock Mining Proposal and associated Mine Closure Plan. This means Vimy can now begin "ground disturbing" activities at the project, with a view to first uranium production by 2025.
