Indian cyclotron begins radioisotope operations
India's largest medical cyclotron - Cyclone-30 - is now operational, the country's Department of Atomic Energy announced yesterday. As well as producing medical radioisotopes, it will also have dedicated beamlines for material science and nuclear physics research.

Coolant channel replacement complete at Kakrapar 2
India's Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has concluded that corrosion spots caused by impurities in carbon dioxide gas at the Kakrapar plant led to coolant channel leaks in 2015 and 2016. Work has now been completed at unit 2.

EDF and GE sign strategic deal for six EPRs in India
GE and EDF have signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the planned construction of six EPR reactors at the Jaitapur site in Maharashtra, India. The document was announced by Xavier Ursat, senior executive vice president of EDF in charge of new nuclear projects and engineering, and Andreas Lusch, president and CEO of GE's Steam Power business.

Way forward agreed for Jaitapur reactors
An Industrial Way Forward Agreement signed on 10 March by the CEOs of EDF and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) sets out the industrial framework and planned timetable for the implementation of six EPR reactors at Jaitapur, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the partners.

India plans tenfold uranium output growth
India is planning a tenfold increase in uranium production over the next 15 years, Minister of State Jitendra Singh told the country's parliament yesterday. State company Uranium Corporation of India Ltd has outlined expansion plans to meet the Department of Atomic Energy's vision of achieving self-sufficiency in uranium production.

India and Vietnam enhance nuclear cooperation
India and Vietnam have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their cooperation in nuclear energy. The agreement was one of three MoUs signed during Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang's visit to India.

India to assist in Rooppur implementation
Russia, Bangladesh and India yesterday signed a memorandum on cooperation in the implementation of the Rooppur nuclear power plant project. Construction of Bangladesh's first nuclear power reactor, Rooppur 1, officially began in late November 2017.

Pre-construction progress at Gorakhpur
India's Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has approved the start of excavation work at Gorakhpur for the construction of two 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors. Construction will start on the first unit in 2019, Minister of State Jitendra Singh told the Indian parliament yesterday.
