Cameco to rename its Zircatec subsidiary

Cameco plans to change the name of its Zircatec Precision Industries subsidiary to Cameco Fuel Manufacturing. The Canadian nuclear regulator, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), has approved an amendment of Zircatec's operating licence for its nuclear fuel facility to reflect the name change. Cameco acquired Zircatec for C$108 million ($93 million) in early 2006. Zircatec's primary business is manufacturing natural uranium dioxide (UO2) fuel bundles for Candu reactors. It operates a licensed fuel manufacturing facility at Port Hope, Ontario, and a specialty metal fabrication plant at nearby Cobourg. Zircatec has the capacity to produce 1200 tonnes of uranium annually as finished fuel. The name change of Zircatec is a continuation of a rebranding program of its subsidiaries to reflect the Cameco name. In late 2007, Cameco announced that its US subsidiaries - Power Resources and Crow Butte Resources - would now operate under the name Cameco Resources.
