Cook brings security in-house

[Herald-Palladium, 17 April] Indiana Michigan Power has announced it is bringing security provision at the Cook nuclear power plant in Michigan in-house, terminating a contract with Florida-based security provider Wackenhut. According to press reports, the existing 162 security workers will be retained, but will become employees of the American Electric Power subsidiary. "The only noticeable change will be the logo on their uniform," said the plant's chief nuclear officer Joe Jensen. Wackenhut security workers at other US nuclear plants have made the nuclear headlines several times over recent years when employees have been discovered sleeping at their posts.
