Facility expansion broadens Tecnatom's capabilities
Spanish engineering firm Tecnatom has inaugurated an extension to its facility near Madrid. The new building houses an emergency support centre which will provide support in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant.

A ceremony to mark the official opening of the 8000 metre square extension was held yesterday and attended by more than 100 guests. Among those present were deputy minister of economy and innovation of the Community of Madrid, Albert Rocio Lopez-Ibor; the mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes, Narciso Romero; and Tecnatom director general Francisco Javier Guerra.
The extension to Tecnatom's facility in the town of San Sebastián de los Reyes, about 20 km north of Madrid, aims to expand the company's capabilities in the energy and aerospace industries. It includes an area dedicated to the manufacture and assembly of automated inspection systems, particularly for the aviation industry.
In addition, the new building houses "an area bringing together the various elements of an emergency support centre", a statement issued by Spanish industry group Foro Nuclear said. "Its aim is to provide support services to nuclear power plant emergencies, coordinating with the plant response."
The emergency support centre will be manned by specialized personnel and will stored equipment such as mobile pumps and electric generators. It features a centralized warehouse with the capacity to house, maintain and mobilize the equipment when necessary.
Tecnatom is an engineering company whose main activity centres on the providing inspection and component structural integrity services, the training of operations personnel by means of full-scope simulators and engineering in support of plant operation.
