Cameco has announced that Tim Gitzel, its senior vice-president and chief operating officer (COO), has replaced Gerald Grandey as its president. Grandey, who has held the position of president for the past ten years, will continue in his role as chief executive officer (CEO). Gitzel joined Cameco in January 2007. Prior to joining Cameco, he was executive vice-president, mining business unit for France's Areva. Bob Steane, who has worked in a number of positions in Cameco since joining in 1983, has been appointed senior vice-president and COO. Grandey commented: "These appointments are consistent with prudent succession planning and Cameco's ongoing commitment to excellence. The moves also fit very well with our corporate strategy." He added, "We already have a strong operations senior management team and these promotions ensure that as Cameco grows, we will continue to have the right people in the right positions, with appropriate experience to meet our long-term goals."
