Georgia Power's Vogtle construction project has reached a new milestone with the placement of unit 4's CA05 module into the reactor's containment building.

The module, which is over 8 metres high and weighs nearly 82 tonnes, is made of eight reinforced steel plates that are welded together and will be filled with concrete to provide structural support for the containment building.
Other recently completed milestones in the project to build two Westinghouse AP1000 pressurized water reactors near Waynesboro, Georgia, include the placement of the KBO4 module in unit 4's auxiliary building. KBO4 will process and discharge waste gas, and is the first mechanical module to be installed in unit 4's nuclear island.
At Vogtle 3, workers have completed the placement of 176 cubic metres of concrete to prepare the nuclear island for the next round of shield building panel installation.
Vogtle 3 is expected to enter operation by the middle of 2019 and unit 4 by mid-2020. Georgia Power is a subsidiary of Southern Company.
