New head of Indian nuclear program
Srikumar Banerjee has taken over as chairman of India's Atomic Energy Commission and secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), after a handover ceremony with Anil Kakodkar.

The former chief said he was moving on with a feeling of satisfaction and with confidence that the DAE would continue to fulfill its commitments to the Indian nation under Banerjee.

Most recently Banerjee has been the director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, near Mumbai, which he joined as a graduate in 1967. He has been the recipient of many awards in metallurgy and materials science and held visiting positions with universities and research groups in the Germany, the UK and USA.
