Juan Alberto González Garrido, a project manager with EDF, was among the 129 people killed in the attacks in the French capital on 13 November. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced the death of the 29-year-old engineer from Granada, who had been living in Paris for two years.
The International Youth Nuclear Congress, of which he was Web Chair for four years until August 2014, said: "We are very sad to announce that the IYNC family has lost a good friend and dedicated webmaster Juanal Gonzalez." It added: "Juanal was extremely friendly and likeable and could warm up a room with his smile. We will miss him and send our prayers to his family, friends and co-workers."
According to the IYNC, González was born in Madrid in 1986 and studied at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (Spain) and the Technical University of Delft (Netherlands). He started working at Iberdrola Ingenieria and Construccion in Nuclear Generation, during which time he worked on the electrical simulation of the auxiliary systems of Slovakia's Mochovce nuclear power plant and the replacement of electrical material of the boiling water reactor of Spain's Santa Maria de Garoña plant. He worked for EDF at the CIPN (Center of Engineering for the Nuclear Park) where he worked on in-core instrumentation and explosive atmospheres.
The El Mundo newspaper reported that Gonzalez and his wife, also an engineer, got married last summer. Both were inside the Bataclan concert hall. His wife escaped, the paper reported, but he did not.
