[Xinhua, RIA Novosti, 16 May] The Tianwan 2 nuclear power reactor in Lianyungang in China's Jiangsu Province was connected to the grid on 13 May. The unit is scheduled to be commissioned in late December. Under a 1992 agreement, Russia is constructing the Tianwan plant. The initial phase of the project consists of two AES-91 power plants (with 1060 MWe VVER reactors). Reactor supplier AtomStroyExport has just successfully completed a 100-hour test of Tianwan 1 and the unit is expected to be commissioned in late June. In October 2006, an agreement for construction of two further 1060 MWe VVER-1000 reactors at Tianwan was signed with AtomStroyExport. Construction is to start once the first units are commissioned. Four more units at Tianwan could follow.
