US and Chinese regulators cooperate

[NRC, 23 May] A memorandum of understanding has been approved by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the National Nuclear Safety Administration of China regarding Westinghouse's AP1000 reactor design. Both will continue to exchange information on regulation and standards while a new steering committee oversees technical cooperation. The NRC's Jeffrey Merrifield said: "This memorandum emphasizes the commitment of both countries to the safety of nuclear power."
