Westinghouse has announced the creation of a new organization to consolidate efforts to pursue commercial nuclear power business throughout the UK. The company said that the creation of Westinghouse Electric Co UK reaffirms its commitment to create jobs and localization in the UK. Former BNFL executive board director David Bonser - currently chairman of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear and president of the European Nuclear Society (ENS) - will serve as Westinghouse UK's chairman. Mike Tynan, formerly the managing director of Westinghouse's Springfields Fuel Ltd subsidiary, will serve as chief executive. Westinghouse's AP1000 pressurized water reactor (PWR) is currently being assessed for Generic Design Acceptance (GDA) in the UK. The company believes that "a fleet of our AP1000 reactors deployed in the United Kingdom could contribute as much as £30 billion ($46 billion) to the UK economy."
