Chinese valve orders for Velan
Friday, 18 November 2011
A French subsidiary of Canada's Velan has recently been awarded contracts worth a total $16.2 million for the supply of valves for Chinese nuclear power reactors. Following earlier selection by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co (CNPE), China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation has awarded Velan a contract to supply nuclear-classified gate and globe valves for units 3 and 4 of the Fuqing plant in Fujian province. The scope of supply is mainly high-pressure forged valves complete with electric or pneumatic actuators for service inside the containment. Under the contract, these valves are to be delivered between 2012 and 2014. Velan has also signed amendments to its existing contract with CNPE for valves for the two Areva EPR units under construction at Taishan. The company has also been awarded aftermarket contracts by Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Co for on-site nuclear services, including a safety upgrade of nuclear-grade valves at units 3 and 4 of the Ling Ao plant and for the supply of spare parts.
