IAEA counts 150 members
The number of member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reached 150 after ratification of the organization's statute by Bahrain, Burundi, Conga, Lesotho and Oman this year. With the mission of bringing the peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy to the world, the IAEA was first imagined by US President Dwight Eisenhower in 1953. The agency's statute was approved at the United Nations in October 1956 and came into force in July 1957 after ratification by 18 nations.
