New CEO for CEZ

Tuesday, 20 September 2011
Daniel Benes has been appointed as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Czech Republic-based energy corporation CEZ. Former vice chairman Benes takes over from Martin Roman, who will now be chairman of the corporation's supervisory board. Roman served as CEO for eight years, a period he described as "optimum for a boss of a major corporation," and said it was logical for him now to hand the reins to his successor. CEZ's generating portfolio includes the Czech Republic's two nuclear power stations at Dukovany and Temelin, comprising in total six Russian-designed VVER pressurized water reactors. The group states its goal is to become the central and southeastern European electricity market leader. It is currently preparing for a tendering process for the construction of up to five new reactors with bids expected to be placed in 2012.
