Senegal joins GNEP
The Republic of Senegal became the latest country to join the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) on 1 February. Cheikh Sylla, the country's ambassador to Germany, Austria and the International Atomic Energy Agency signed the GNEP Statement of Principles along with Greg Shulte, the USA's permanent representative to the United Nations. "We welcome Senegal as GNEP's 20th member," said Dennis Spurgeon, US assistant secretary for nuclear energy, "GNEP is made up of countries with a wide range of experience related to nuclear power and this diversity strengthens the partnership." Senegal takes the total of GNEP nations to 20.
