Westinghouse gets Aggressive, CIA school

Westinghouse has announced theacquisition of Carolina Energy Solutions(CES) and an extention to its agreement with control system providerEmerson. CES supplies welding and machining services for a wide rangeof energy industries and its acquisition also brings affiliatesAggressive Equipment and the Construction Institute of America (CIA).All three entities are to be brought into Westinghouse's existing WECWelding and Machining business. Jimmy Morgan, the business's Presidentsaid the acquisition "positions the company to continue supporting theoperating nuclear fleet, while ramping up resources to meet the demandsof new nuclear construcion." A Westinghouse statement highlighted the"strategically important" addition of the CIA Welding School, whichproduces 120-150 apprentice welders per year. Westinghouse's othernews, a ten-year contract extension with Emerson should see thatcompany's Ovation control and information system used in forthcomingAP1000 nuclear power plant sales. The two companies have had a closerelationship since Emerson bought Westinghouse's non-nuclearinstrumentation and control business in 1998. Westinghouse iscontracted to provide four AP1000s in China and involved in projectsaiming to build 12 more in the USA.
