Holtec applies to restart shuttered Palisades plant
The Palisades plant in Michigan could become the first successfully restarted nuclear power plant in the USA following Holtec International's submission of a filing with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to formally begin the process of seeking reauthorisation of power operations at the plant, which was shut down in May 2022.

IAEA seeks access to all Zaporizhzhia turbine halls on same day
International Atomic Energy Agency experts at the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant "continue to request" access to all the six turbine halls "one after the other to be able confirm the absence of any materials and equipment" that contravenes the agreed safety and security principles.

Framatome to commercialise digital twin-based diagnostics
Framatome has been awarded a USD1 million contract for the second phase of the digital twin-based Diagnostics for Nuclear Auxiliary Systems project to commercialise automated diagnostic technology for nuclear plant auxiliary systems, which it says will lead to savings in operation and maintenance costs for the current light-water reactor fleet.

New Slovak reactor reaches full power
The power output of unit 3 at the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia has been increased from 90% to 100% as energy start-up tests continue, Slovenské elektrárne announced.

Temelín switching to 18-month fuel cycle
Operator ČEZ says that the transition from a 12-month to an 18-month fuel cycle has begun at Temelín's second unit, part of the company's investment programme to boost efficiency and pave the way for the planned 60-year operation of the plant.

Fuel loading completed at second Shin Hanul unit
The loading of fuel has been completed at unit 2 of the Shin Hanul nuclear power plant, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced. The unit - the second of two APR1400 reactors at the site - is expected to enter commercial operation in about six months' time following the completion of test runs.

Long-term safety of Ascó plant reviewed by IAEA
An International Atomic Energy Agency team of experts has completed a follow-up review of long-term operational safety at the Ascó nuclear power plant in Spain. The team reviewed the plant's response to recommendations and suggestions made during a Safety Aspects of Long-Term Operation mission in 2021.

Takahama 2 reactor restarted
Unit 2 of the Takahama nuclear power plant in Japan's Fukui Prefecture has been restarted after being taken offline more than 12 years ago, Kansai Electric Power Company announced. The 780 MWe (net) pressurised water reactor becomes the 12th Japanese reactor to resume operation.
