The International Energy Agency has set out a ten-point plan that could enable the European Union to reduce its imports of natural gas from Russia by more than one-third within a year, including maximising generation from existing low-emissions sources such as nuclear.

The head of Ukraine's Energoatom has asked the International Atomic Energy Agency to intervene to help keep the area around the plants free from military action.

The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, in its update at 08:00 local time (06:00 GMT) on Monday 28 February said, there have been "no violations" of nuclear power plants' "safe operation limits and conditions".

Fennovoima says that the "Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the counter measures by EU and western countries as a consequence" pose a "major risk" to the future of the nuclear power plant project.
