An International Atomic Energy Agency task force has carried out a second mission to Japan to review the country's updated technical plans for the discharge of treated water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.

A team of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency is beginning the latest mission to observe the collection and treatment of marine samples from the sea near the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.

Mitsubishi Nuclear Fuel Co is to resume production of pressurised water reactor fuel at its refurbished Tokai plant  after receiving approval from the Japanese nuclear regulator.

Kansai Electric Power Company took unit 3 of its Mihama nuclear power plant in Japan's Fukui Prefecture offline on 23 October as it could not meet today's deadline set by regulators to implement antiterrorism measures. The reactor - which was restarted in June - is expected to remain offline for 13 months whilst the measures are completed.

A University of Georgia study has shown that radioactive contamination in the Fukushima Exclusion Zone can be measured through its resident snakes.

The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Japan's Niigata Prefecture will not be restarted until fiscal 2022 (ending March 2023) at the earliest, Tokyo Electric Power Company said in a revised business plan. The company submitted the plan yesterday to the government for approval. Tepco is awaiting regulatory approval to restart units 6 and 7 at the plant.

Measures put in place at Canada's Bruce nuclear plant in the 10 years since the Fukushima Daiichi accident in Japan have made the site safer, stronger and better prepared to deal with even the most unlikely emergency, a new study has concluded. Emergency preparedness enhancements mean that off-site protective actions would not be required even in the most unlikely situation, the study by Kinectrics has found.

Kansai Electric Power Co has announced plans to restart Mihama unit 3 in June. The unit will return to full operations in July, but Takahama units 1 and 2 will not be able restart until further facilities are completed at those units.
