Standard Nuclear, Inc has received its first shipment of high-assay low-enriched uranium feedstock at its facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, under the US Department of Energy's initiative to fast-track the fuel supply chain for advanced reactors.
Idaho National Laboratory has launched full-scale production of enriched fuel salt for the world's first test of a molten chloride salt fast reactor - technology that could be deployed as soon as the 2030s for both terrestrial and maritime applications.
Samples of enriched uranium-zirconium alloy fuel material are being irradiated in the lab's Advanced Test Reactor, a significant step forward in the development and testing programme which is part of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement between Lightbridge and INL.
