Second AP1000 enters commercial operation
Unit 1 of the Haiyang nuclear power plant in China's Shandong province has completed 168 hours of full-power continuous operation. The unit is now deemed to be the second AP1000 reactor to enter commercial operation.

ANSTO to act on medicine production safety culture
Australia's nuclear regulator has given the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation 60 days to provide a "full and complete" response to 85 recommendations to improve the safety culture in ANSTO Health's nuclear medicine production facility following an independent expert review.

Changes to Oyster Creek emergency planning approved
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved modifications to the emergency preparedness plan for Oyster Creek to reflect its decommissioning status. The plant shut down in September after 49 years of operation.

The Haiyang 2 AP1000 in China has been connected to the electricity grid. Meanwhile, Sanmen 1 - which last month became the first AP1000 to begin commercial operation - has entered the guarantee period.

NRC centre activated ahead of hurricane
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission yesterday activated its Atlanta regional incident response centre in anticipation of Hurricane Michael's landfall in the south-eastern USA. Southern Nuclear reduced power at the Farley nuclear power plant in Alabama as a precautionary measure.

Injunction lifted on operation of Japanese reactor
UPDATED 28 September: Shikoku Electric Power Company expects unit 3 of its Ikata nuclear power plant in Japan's Ehime Prefecture to resume power generation by the end of next month following a high court decision to overturn an injunction imposed last December.
