Areva wins service contracts
A recent flurry of contracts will see Areva provide reactor services to units in Bulgaria, Switzerland and Germany, including a power uprate at Bulgaria's Kozloduy plant.

In addition to services for instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems at Kozloduy units 5 and 6, Areva is to advise on the "replacement or adaptation" of the units' main electrical generators. This will achieve a 10% increase in the output of each of the 953 MWe VVER-1000 units, Areva says. Both reactors are already fitted with Areva's Teleperm-XS digital I&C platform.
Meanwhile, Kernkraftwerk Gösgen-Däniken (KKG) has selected Areva for two projects at the Gösgen nuclear power plant in Switzerland. The first project covers the expansion of the plant's existing interim wet storage facility for used nuclear fuel. The existing facility has been in operation since 2008. Under the new contract, Areva will double its capacity to enable it to store more than 1000 fuel assemblies to provide greater operating flexibility for the 985 MWe pressurized water reactor. A second project will see Areva modernize the I&C systems of Gösgen's emergency diesel generators.
Finally, German utility RWE has signed a long-term contract with Areva to provide inspection services during planned outages at the Emsland nuclear power plant. Inspection activities will include non-destructive examination of steam generators, the reactor pressure vessel and other primary components as part of periodic regulatory assessments. Ultrasonic inspection and eddy current testing techniques will be used to detect any potential irregularities in major parts of the unit's primary circuit and associated welding lines.
Details of the values of the individual contracts have not been released.
