The bilateral was signed by UAE foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Argentinian minister of foreign relations and worship Hector Marcos Timmerman, at a ceremony witnessed by Kirchner and UAE president Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan. The two presidents also held talks covering areas including increasing their trade exchange and investment opportunities, according to UAE state news agency WAM.
A Korean consortium has already begun work on the first of four APR-1400 reactors at the UAE's first nuclear power plant at Barakah, close to the border with Saudi Arabia. The UAE has nuclear cooperation agreements in place with Canada, the USA, the UK, South Korea, France and Australia, plus a memorandum of understanding with Japan, and has also signed agreements with Russia to enable it to supply fuel for the plant.
